Shoe Envy: Confessions

I started this segment because I have a huge passion in my life and that passion is ---- SHOES!
Seriously, it could be SOOO many things but the truth is I love shoes. I love how they are made, I love how beautiful they look and I love how people are able to take these works of art and wear them.

I say people because unfortunately, I am not one of them. I love shoes (as you may have gathered so far) but at the same time I am THE WORST at owning them. Maybe its the way I walk, maybe its my height, or just terrible hand-eye coordination that causes me to fail and ruin the pair of shoes that I've just invested in.

Not to be overlooked, the PAIN! I think there are some evil elves out there who have come up with the master plan of making shoes hurt our delicate feet. The prettier the shoe, the more painful it ends up being.

So, the 'Shoe Envy' category will be dedicated to all the shoes that I love, all the looks that can be achieved with these wonderful creations and like always, my sunny disposition with keep you company throughout your reading experience.

The Lazy Guide To Summer Skin Care

Hey Guys!
Today I was inspired to write about my summer skin care regime or lack of thereof which has been highly critiqued by my wonderful mother.
For me the summer is when I am running around in the city and then lounging around on the beach. There is no inbetween, once I am done going to the beach I won't be tanning anymore and this means that it is really important for me to know how to take care of my skin so that I maximize the time that is spent in the sun.
Make no mistake, this is not a DO & DON'T post - I do not view myself as the authority in this matter whatsoever. I just wanted to share the tips that have worked for me in the last 20 years.

BEFORE THE SUN
Before you plan on tanning be sure that your skin has been prepped. This means you have two tasks.
1. EXFOLIATE - be sure that you have gotten rid of any dead skin so that there is less pealing in the long run.
2. HYDRATE - your skin needs to be hydrated so that it is healthy and so that you are able to achieve that summer glow. Don't forget to moisturize both in the morning and in the evening but if you find yourself not able to do so try to do it at least once.

DURING THE SUN
While you are laying out in the sun the most important skin care tip is: SUN CREAM!
As someone who tans extremely easily I have a strategy when it comes to my protection. The first two days I use SPF 50, then I go to SPF 30 for another two days, and finally I alternate between SPF 30 and SPF 15 until the last day when I use SPF 5 (which literally doesn't do anything when it comes to protection and therefore is a bad but... urgh, do it for the tan??!).´
I alernate the SPF levels so that my skin gets used to the sun exposure and so that I am able to get a good tan. It is worth mentioning that whenever I am at the beach during those peak sun times 12am-3pm, I always put on SPF 50 when I touch up my sun cream so that I do not burn and also, skin cancer!
Another important thing is sun cream intended for the face. When it comes to my face I do not mess around. It is SPF 50 all the way, and not the same as my body sun cream either. I choose a separate one which is made intentionally for the face because they usually come with moisturizer which keeps my skin smooth and burn free.

AFTER THE SUN
Taking care of your skin after being in the sun is just as important as preparing your skin and taking care of it during exposure. Why? Because this is when your skin heals from the exposure and this is when you can make it so that you maximize and prolong your tan.
Cleanse your face and moisturize so that you tackle your pores and keep your face nice and clean.
Be sure to wash your hair and take care of your scalp gently, it is skin too afterall, and it is affected by the sun as well.
Be sure to use a light exfoliant from time to time during your holiday so you clear out and take care of any pealing skin.
And... MOISTURIZE! So that your skin is healthy and therefore your tan can last longer.

Hope you guys like the tips, maybe you already follow some of them, maybe you have other tips that you would like to share! Be sure to leave a comment. I would love to know more.
Lots of Love,
Bee

It-Girl Style: Selena Gomez

Hey Guys!
As a self-proclaimed low-key girl I must admit that one of my guilty pleasures to look at photos of it-girls and check out what they are wearing.
I decided to start a regular segment on the blog where I choose some of my faves and share what it is that draws me to them. This post is dedicated to Selena Gomez. I love that she is able to follow trends and yet stay true to herself. Any look she wears, she does so with confidence, and it shows - people everywhere on the web are dedicating style blogs and style posts to her and her great taste.

Vibes: Summer 2016 Playlist

Hey Guys!
Today I wanted to talk to you about something truly importante: Summer Playlists, because let's face it - having a kickass playlist in the summer is a MUST!
However, as cool and necessary as they are - they aren't always easy - have you noticed that before?? I struggle with what I like, what I soon won't like, what I can listen to in public (sometimes swear words just aren't acceptable), and what is super popular and good versus what is super popular and bad....
So much to consider, So little patience.
Nevertheless I am not one to admit defeat - SO, and you knew this was coming - here is my Summer 2016 Playlist. Disclaimer: I have refused to consider ANY of the previously mentioned factors and yet the world is still going round #shocker

Summer 2016 Playlist:

Magnets by Disclosure ft. Lorde
Thoughts of You by Drake ft. Bryson Tiller
Swimming Pools by Kendrick Lamar
This Is What You Came For by Calvin Haris ft. Rihanna
3005 by Childish Gambino
Tennis Court by Lorde (REMIX Flume)
Bang! Bang! by Iwan Rheon
Loud Places by Jamie XX ft. Romy
Exchange by Bryson Tiller
Sonnentanz (Sun Don't Shine) by Klangkarussell ft. Will Heard
U Mad by Vic Mensa ft. Kanye West

Leave me a comment with any suggestions - I am always open to more cool vibes.
Go enjoy the sun outside, and do it with some good music!
Lots of Love,
Bee

Book Club: 'Capture Your Style' by Aimee Song

Hey Guys!
Unlike the other 'Book Club' posts that I've done where I have actually read the book that I'm reviewing, this time I wanted to talk about Aimee Song's book - Capture Your Style which will be releasing in Fall 2016.
I was introduced to Aimee's blog - Song of Style by my best friend and quickly became a fan. It's been really cool to see how far the blog has gone in the last couple of years and this book is a clear sign that Aimee is doing something right.
I have a HUGE amount of instaenvy, I mean have you seen her feed?! I am dying to get my hands of her book which focuses on the curating process for any instagram feed and seeing her acheivements, I am curious to see which tips I can use from her.
Also, not to be overlooked is the fact that Diane Von Furstenberg wrote the foreword to the book, further establishing the fact that this book will be worth the $!

Hope you are having a wonderful holiday break. Out here in the countryside there is minimal amount of internet and I have to say a part of me is happy because I get to rest but another part is antsy and craving access to the online world.

Rotterdam Spots: SUE

Hey Guys!
Today’s post is about SUE. I recently heard about SUE when I went to one of my favourite healthy spots, Sajoer. SUE is a really cute café where you can get a quick bite to eat or sit down and snack on something more filling.
SUE’s little raw vegan dessert bites are famous around town for being delicious and it sure looked to be true.
For anyone that is a little bit OR a lot health conscious, this is a really great place to check out – not to mention they have a really nice store display filled with everyday pantry items that you can buy to take home.

Rotterdam Spots: Lilith Coffee

After hearing from a friend, who is super into clean living & healthy eating, that Lilith was a great breakfast spot, I could not resist to go and check it out to see if it was worth all the hype. I had gone with intentions of ordering pancakes but last minute decided to change my mind and get french toast. I'm not a huge fan of french toast but I decided to gamble and see if I was satisfied. The french toast was made from brown bread with seeds that definitely gave it that 'healthy' edge, however I thought it could have been a little sweeter. I'm excited to go back and try the pancakes next time!

Rotterdam Spots: Spirit & Gimsel

Hey Guys,
The Groene Passage, translated into the 'Green Passage' is a small shopping complex that houses a really nice vegan and vegetarian restaurant, Spirit, and one of the best organic supermarkets in the country, Gimsel.

What I love about Spirit is that the restaurant is set up as a buffet concept but instead of paying a fixed amount, you pay for the quantity of food you intend to eat. For the past couple of months I have been trying to be more aware of what I am eating so it is nice to go to a place where I can trust that everything will be healthy.

Remember the time I went to Stach? Well, Gimsel is exactly the same concept except much larger. I have never been to an organic supermarket this huge. It is one of my favourite places to shop, especially for fruit because I am able to know exactly where it comes from. Another great things about the size is that this means that there is so much more variety.

Crushing On: Naked by Urban Decay

Hey Guys,
I've been looking forward to doing a beauty post since December. I bought my first proper make-up palette in December, the Naked Smoky. I used to be super weird about make-up, not wanting to invest in it, learn how to use it properly, and actually wearing it. I thought I would do it wrong, and I didn't want to be ridiculed for looking funny.

However, being best friends with a girly girl was the best motivator for getting out of my comfort zone and experimenting a little.

I decided to purchase the naked smoky because I realised that I needed some cool stuff for nights out - uni life and all. But now in May, I was in the airport on my 20th birthday coming back to Rotterdam when I passed the Urban Decay stand at the airport. I was curious so I decided to hang around and see what products they had and ended up leaving with the Naked 3 palette and the Original Primer.

I have had the Naked 3 palette for two weeks so far and it's already my day-to-day saviour. Every eyeshadow necessary in one place that gives you a natural yet feminine look.

For the ultimate lazy girl like me - I know that it may seem like make-up is a lot of work, unnecessary work. But what I've gotten to know is that make-up done right will serve to highlight what is already so awesome about you. There are countless videos on YouTube with beauty gurus who have already experimented with the palette endlessly and who are now able to guide you in your experimentation process.

Hope you decide to leave your comfort zone a little bit - and for those of you that already do - keep doing you! 💕
